  • Simple flat-rate earning

The Verdict

4/5
ByEllis Church·Mar 11, 2026

The simplest rewards card — 2% on everything, no categories, no thinking.

The Double Cash is the best card for people who refuse to think about credit card strategy. 2% on everything, no fee, no categories. It's the ultimate backup card and the right default for any spending that doesn't fall into a bonus category on another card. If you're building a Citi setup, pair it with a Strata Premier to turn that 2% into transferable points worth 1.5-2+ cents each.

Pros

  • Flat 2% back on every purchase (1% when you buy, 1% when you pay) is best-in-class for a no-fee card
  • No annual fee, no category tracking, no activation — pure simplicity
  • ThankYou Points transfer to airline partners when paired with a Strata Premier
  • No earning caps — 2% on $50,000 in spending is still $1,000/year

Cons

  • 3% foreign transaction fee makes it expensive abroad
  • 2% is competitive but not exceptional — category cards beat it in their specialty areas
  • Signup bonus is modest (20K points for $1,500 spend in 6 months)
  • Standalone TYP are worth only 1 cent each — needs a Strata Premier to unlock transfer value
