The Verdict

4/5
ByEllis Church·Mar 11, 2026

The best no-fee everyday card — 1.5x on everything feeds the Chase points machine.

The CFU is the backbone card of any Chase portfolio. It won't win headlines, but 1.5x on literally everything — with no annual fee — quietly earns more points than most category cards. Pair it with a Sapphire Preferred or Reserve and every dollar you spend becomes transferable to Hyatt, United, and Southwest. If you're only going to have two Chase cards, make this one of them.

Pros

  • 1.5x on everything with no annual fee is the strongest flat-rate earning in the UR ecosystem
  • 3x on dining and drugstores adds bonus earning where it counts
  • Points pool with any Sapphire card, unlocking transfer partners and portal boosts
  • 0% intro APR for 15 months makes it a solid option for large purchases
  • 5x on Chase Travel portal bookings when paired with a Sapphire card

Cons

  • Foreign transaction fee (3%) makes it a bad choice for international travel
  • No transfer partner access on its own — needs a Sapphire card to unlock full value
  • 1.5x is good but not spectacular in any single category
  • Signup bonus is modest (20K points) compared to Sapphire cards
