The Verdict
4/5
A 140K signup bonus and a free night every year — IHG's best card is underrated.
The IHG Premier is the best hotel card you've never heard of. The 4th-night-free benefit alone can save hundreds on a single vacation, and the annual free night more than covers the fee. IHG has the largest hotel portfolio in the world (Holiday Inn, Kimpton, InterContinental, Crowne Plaza), so chances are there's an IHG property wherever you're going. If you stay at IHG 3+ nights a year, this card is a must-have.
Pros
- Free night award (up to 40,000 points) on anniversary is worth $100-200+ and covers the $99 fee
- 4th night free on award stays is a 25% discount on every points redemption of 4+ nights
- 140K signup bonus is one of the largest hotel card offers available
- 26x at IHG properties is the highest on-brand earning rate across all hotel cards
- Platinum Elite status gets you room upgrades, late checkout, and welcome amenity
Cons
- IHG points are worth ~0.5 cents each — earning rate looks huge but real value is more modest
- 40,000-point free night cap excludes premium IHG properties (InterContinental, Kimpton peak rates)
- Only useful if you actually stay at IHG — worthless for Hilton or Marriott loyalists
- 5x on travel, dining, and gas is decent but not competitive with general travel cards
