The Verdict

4/5
ByEllis Church·Mar 11, 2026

The Marriott card that pays for itself every year with a free night.

The Boundless is the best mid-tier hotel card because the math is dead simple: the free night is worth $150-250 at most Marriott properties, and the fee is $95. You come out ahead every year without trying. The 3x on dining and groceries makes it useful beyond just hotel stays. If you stay at Marriott even 2-3 times a year, this card is an easy yes.

Pros

  • Free night award (up to 35,000 points) on card anniversary easily covers the $95 fee
  • 6x at Marriott properties accelerates earning toward free nights fast
  • 3x on dining and groceries is competitive with general-purpose cards at this price
  • $100 annual airfare credit ($50 semi-annually) adds real travel value
  • 15 elite night credits help you reach Silver or Gold status faster

Cons

  • 35,000-point free night cap limits you to Category 5 and below — no luxury redemptions
  • Marriott points are worth ~0.7 cents each, so 2x base earning is effectively 1.4% back
  • Silver Elite status is barely noticeable — no real upgrades or perks until Gold
  • Marriott/Chase cross-issuer rules with the Bonvoy Brilliant complicate having both
