The Verdict

5/5
ByEllis Church·Apr 12, 2026

The premium travel card that actually pays for itself — if you use the credits.

The CSR is the best premium travel card for people who actually travel. The $795 fee sounds intimidating, but between $3,000+ in credits (travel, dining, hotels, DoorDash, entertainment), lounge access, and Points Boost redemptions, most frequent travelers come out well ahead. The 4x on direct flights and hotels is best-in-class for a Visa. Pair it with a Freedom Unlimited for everyday spending and you have a top-tier setup. If you travel fewer than 5 times a year, the Sapphire Preferred is the smarter pick.

Pros

  • 8x via Chase Travel, 4x direct flights & hotels, and Points Boost at 2cpp make this the strongest travel earning card
  • Over $3,000 in annual credits (travel, dining, hotels, DoorDash, StubHub, entertainment) can dwarf the fee
  • Priority Pass lounge access for you and 2 guests eliminates airport food spending
  • $300 travel credit applies automatically with zero effort
  • Primary rental car insurance saves $15-30/day on every rental
  • Transfer partners (Hyatt, United, Southwest) unlock outsized redemption value

Cons

  • $795 annual fee is steep — you need to actively use credits to come out ahead
  • Earning rates outside travel and dining are a flat 1x, which is mediocre for everyday spending
  • Many credits are niche (StubHub, Peloton) or have expiration dates — value is only real if you'd spend there anyway
  • Chase One Sapphire rule means you can't hold this and the Sapphire Preferred simultaneously
